Five centuries of Romanesque architecture have left important marks throughout the Aosta Valley, not forgetting the Val d'Ayas and Brusson.
With the advent of the Middle Ages, however, the first fortified settlements that characterize the entire territory of the Aosta Valley and also part of the Val d'Ayas. The local historical and architectural heritage includes several interesting monuments: the castle of Graines (11th century), one of the oldest in the region; the medieval house of the Count of Challant, the Maison du Sel (11th century)probably medieval customs and the parish church of San Maurizio built in the fifteenth century and rearranged in later ones.
