La Tchavana is an agritourism farm run by the Bagnod family, known for its production of uniquely good 'fontine d'alpeggio' cheese, but also for its production of other dairy products such as fresh milk, cream butter, yoghurt, ricotta, first salt and flavoured 'tome' cheese.
As is traditional on the table, in addition to dairy products, home-made sausages and salami and last but not least, polenta. There is also the concia version, i.e. topped with butter and lots of fontina cheese. A true culinary experience!
In July and August, the Bagnod family organises guided tours of the farm on request: here you can admire the grazing cows, watch them being milked and observe the maturing of the fontina cheese. In addition, you can buy fresh produce directly at the Alpe Metsan sales point with a special added bonus: ice cream!
You can reach the La Tchavana agritourism farm on foot either from Barmasc, along the beautiful and easy Ru Courtaud walk, which can also be done by mountain bike or on horseback, or by climbing up from Mandrou on the path that offers a breathtaking view of the glacier of the majestic Monte Rosa.
